I didn’t think I’d be the type to opt for a suit, never mind bright red but hey, we surprise ourselves sometimes don’t we?
I guess the whole suit ~trend~ started to influence me back in October when I first spotted that pink velvet suit. I tried it on during a blogger event I attended and whilst I loved it, I couldn’t justify buying it. Velvet, to me, is a texture that you only really see or wear around Christmas – maybe Valentine’s Day at a push. Being sensible, I put the dreamy pink co-ord back and found myself drawn to this red two piece instead.

For more weekend wear/off-duty days I didn’t want to fully ‘suit up’ Barney Stinson style and be too formal. I’ve dressed it down here with a slogan tee and my white Converse. The red suit blazer looks pretty good over a turtleneck too. I know; suits and turtlenecks – who even am i?! Let’s just say, sometimes it’s good to break out of your comfort zone and if my instagram feed is anything to go by, I’ve definitely been into red lately.
Red used to seem too bold of a colour choice for me. What can I say, I’m fond of simple monochrome or the muted colour palette you see in AllSaints, but since buying that slogan jumper, I’ve changed my mind. A bold red makes my green eyes pop a little more and makes me feel just that little bit more confident. Who doesn’t want that?!
Whilst we’re rounding off towards the end of the year, it’s still as good a time as any to try something new. So, if like me, you never thought you’d be a suit person – go try one on, or perhaps you own that pink or mustard velvet suit and can convince me to buy it. Whatever it is, try and break out of your comfort zone a little – what’s the worst that could happen?
This time of year I feel like I may get some Santa based jokes for wearing a red suit but I’ll take my chances. Any offers of mince pies are very welcome, however!
Some suit inspo…
