At the end of September, we headed away for a couple of days for my birthday. I didn’t want a big fuss, so a trip over to the Lake District sounded just the thing. It became even better when we arranged to stay at Daffodil Hotel in Grasmere which just reopened this summer, following the devastation caused by the floods. With their newly refreshed spa and some incredible views, I couldn’t wait to get there.

Our room was stunning – I’m sure you’ll agree from the photos above! Located on the top floor with two huge windows; the kind you can sit in with a cuppa and gaze out of, the biggest bed I’ve ever seen, gorgeous Matisse artwork and a bathroom with his and hers sinks, plenty of little Molton Brown minis plus a bath and shower.
The spa was something special too, with a 10m hydrothermal pool, sauna and steam room, you could really switch off and relax. We spent a little time using the facilities before we were whisked away into our double treatment room; my boyfriend to have the deep tissue massage and I had the Obsidian and Onyx Back Massage and Facial. In two words; absolute bliss. My skin felt brighter and energised when I left the room in my hazy state and the therapist Laura was so lovely and friendly! Does anyone else find massages so relaxing they could just doze off?
You can dine in the restaurant at Daffodil Hotel without being a guest, but I would highly recommend booking a table. We arrived to dinner around 7pm and by 8/8:30pm it was packed (and that was a Monday night) My risotto starter was sublime and I could’ve happily eaten it as my main dish – which is quite the compliment when I had half a lobster to follow. For dessert, I had to pick the cheeseboard whilst my boyfriend tucked into a crumble to follow his steak. I overheard a couple of guests dining at a table nearby claim my cheeseboard was too large for one person – clearly they weren’t aware that cheese and wine together is one of my favourite things.
The following morning I found it very difficult to drag myself out of bed, being so snug. I spent some time opening birthday presents in bed, wrapped in my fluffy dressing gown before we headed down for a full english breakfast. After an hour or so in the spa we checked out, to head home to see my family and continue the birthday celebrations. Thank you, Daffodil, you were a delight, even the rain didn’t dampen our spirits; I’m sure we’ll be back soon!

We were kindly offered a complimentary dinner, B&B stay with Daffodil, but I truly loved it and you know I wouldn’t lie about food – or how comfy the bed was!

Thanks Laura! It was a little rainy when we stayed, so we didn't really have the chance to sit with a drink on the patio – but I bet it's lovely to sit out there for afternoon tea!

We stayed at the Gilpin in Windermere on our Minimoon last month but I remember seeing the Daffodil pop up when I was researching where to go, it looked beautiful so I'm really happy you've given me the chance to have a nose inside. A definite one for the list!
The Gilpin looks so dreamy! Definitely recommend a visit to Daffodil, y'know if you need another minimoon – or even an anniversary getaway! x
