The sun is shining, it’s time to start thinking about those summer festivals and outdoor gigs. I’ve teamed up with Very to showcase some easy summer festival outfits that you can take from day to night and restyle for other events too.
Whether you’ve got big weekend plans (no pun intended there as I sadly don’t have tickets for Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Sunderland, despite it being on my doorstep!!) or you’re seeing Harry Styles (I’m not jealous, I promise) or you’re keeping things more local and low key; you’ve got to think about your outfit.
Typically when it gets to festival season, the conversation turns to how muddy it’ll be and the chance of rain. But I think we had enough rain at the start of the year, so surely there’s a few sunnier, dry days on the cards for us.

Pick a couple of hero pieces that you can restyle
Heading to a weekend festival? Then you’ll want to pack light. Having a few pieces you can restyle into different outfits is a great way to do this (and typically how I would pack for a city break too – already thinking these two outfits would be great for my next adventure)

Pick your footwear wisely
If I’m out and about all day, I want to wear something comfy, is that because I’m now in my 30s? The two outfits I’ve styled up here both have comfort at heart. A midi dress is an easy day to night outfit piece, it’s dressed down with trainers but this could easily be worn with some sandals – chunky ones would look cool and a bit grungy (or heels for an evening out, sans grass / mud). Or wellies, if the weather isn’t as favourable for the field!
Trainers are a great way to make an outfit pop, especially these Puma Easy Rider, but make sure they’re comfy before you spend the whole day in them. I’d possibly steer away from white trainers in favour of something brighter to add colour to your outfit and be more of a statement piece. It’s summer isn’t it, let’s add some colour!

Layer up!
With any outdoor gig / party / festival, you need to think about layers. The sun might be beaming down for early afternoon, but by the time the headline act takes to the stage, or the last embers from the BBQ have fizzled out, you’re going to be feeling a chill. This is where the summer wardrobe hero piece – the denim jacket – comes in. This Levi’s shrunken 90’s trucker jacket can be casually draped on your shoulders, or even teamed up with a sweater underneath and still look cool. The pockets will be handy too if you don’t want to carry a bag.
If you’re wanting something comfy that’s got a sporty edge, then throw on a pair of Adidas shorts. These navy sprinter ones are so easy to wear, pair with a half tucked shirt like I have here, or a cropped tee. Lean in to the sporty theme with a matching cap and some trainers.

Rain or shine – sunglasses!
If Liam Gallagher can pull off wearing sunglasses at all times, then so can you. They’re very handy if you’re unfortunately struck by hayfever like I am and can be a handy hair accessory too. Multi purpose and stylish, need I say more?
Okay… so on the point of rain, I would recommend packing a small waterproof into your bag, because if you’ve put all that time and thought into your outfit, it would be a shame for it to get soggy!
Which festivals and gigs are you headed to this summer?
