Hello Freckles Sex And The City What I've Learned TV Series Lifestyle

    Yes, we’re really doing this.

So believe it or not, I’d never watched Sex and The City until this year; April to be exact and I watched all 6 seasons from mid April until the end of June. I don’t know if that’s something to be proud of or not, but I’ve learned a few things from those four ladies, so settle in, get a cuppa and the box set ready for a re-watch on your iPad, Panasonic 4K HD TV, or even highlights on YouTube. Let’s chat…

    1. It’s okay to not have it all figured out

As a 20-something I feel like I should have my game plan written up and know exactly which direction I’m heading in, but truth be told, I still haven’t really made my mind up. I don’t think I’m alone in that too, whilst friends are starting to get married, have babies and others buying their first homes, I feel like I should be on that same plane. But in no way am I ready for any of that – and that’s okay! Charlotte has a plan of how things should play out, but do things always go that way – no, but she carries on and things work out in the end. Miranda and Steve; we all knew they’d work things out (even if I did like her with the doctor) Samantha has her eyes on the bigger picture and doesn’t let anything knock her back, then there’s Carrie and we all know her internal struggle with Big vs any other guy.

I was surprised at how many topics the series touched on and thinking back to when this originally aired, it would have definitely been one of the first shows to see women talking about sex, having families and even cancer. But it’s not always sunshine and rainbows and you see these four women go about their lives regardless – just as you or I would.

    2. New York is on the list / I need to travel more!

I’d be lying if I hadn’t always wanted to visit New York. I think it probably stems from when I first watched Home Alone. The city is bustling, full of opportunity and I’d love to tour around seeing all the places from the show. I know fine well I’d be going to hunt down Carrie’s apartment and pose outside. Tulle skirt not necessarily vital, but would be nice!

Perhaps I’m romanticising the idea of New York and America in general, but I’d love to visit whilst I’m young and see what the city has to offer. I think watching the show, you see the opportunities for each character and it would be a different story if it was in LA, or Miami for example. Imagine even if it was set in London.

    3. You don’t need lots of friends to be happy, a handful is better!

I’ve never been the girl who’s been surrounded by endless amounts of people and truth be told, sometimes I find it more difficult to form friendships with other ladies. Though through watching SATC (and just life generally) I’ve realised you don’t need masses of friends, you just need some really good ones you can rely on when you need them and vice versa.

    4. Cocktails are always a good idea

Cosmopolitan anyone? These ladies enjoy their girly evening drinks. “I’ll bring the cocktails” is usually Samantha’s line and I love her character. She’s witty, hilarious and such a strong woman. I feel like every girl needs to be a bit like Samantha. Not in the sleeping around, very forward kind of way – sorry family if you’re reading this, that’s not at all what I mean. But her principle to go out and do things and be fabulous. I can get behind that!

    5. Take the opportunity (buy the shoes)

Carrie goes to Paris, even when Miranda shows her concern. Sometimes you just have to get up and go, follow your instincts and see what happens. If it works out, then great. If not, then I’m sure there’s still some great stories to tell and lessons you’ll have learned along the way.

If there’s one thing SATC has in abundance, it’s shoes. Carrie works out she’s spent $40,000 on her shoe collection and whilst that might seem mad to anyone who isn’t into fashion and wouldn’t know their Manolo Blahnik’s from their Louboutin’s, she works hard and treats herself. Use the ‘shoes’ as a metaphor and if you want to buy those new sunglasses, or get your hair styled differently, then go and do it. You are your biggest asset and if you feel good in a new pair of shoes walking into that new job, then damn well buy them!
