Last week I headed along to Y Salon for Hair Fashion Night, a worldwide event running at L’oréal salons celebrating great hair.

Tucked away in Eldon Gardens within Eldon Square, you’ll find Y Salon. If you didn’t know it was there you could probably walk straight past the home of the Geordie Blow Dry (yes really, I’m sure I’ll feature that on here soon enough – keep your eyes out). Creative Director, Angela made me instantly feel welcome, explaining the concept of the event and showing me the styles they were looking to celebrate for the night – handily being displayed by other staff and visitors on the night.
Wanting to give her a bit of a challenge (though she was more than happy to give it a go) I opted for the reverse braids; Kylie Jenner style. I’ve tried French Braids myself and just about got them to work once – I only kept them in to go to the gym the next day! So I was intrigued to see if I could pick up any tips for getting braids to stay in my hair, and more importantly, how to perfect the technique.
With having a pretty short fringe and freshly washed hair (a hairdresser’s nightmare to style, sorry Angela) we had to dirty things up with some dry shampoo and some gel to give my hair some texture to work with. The odd tug here and there and we made it. I was so impressed I even left them in for work the following day (and received quite a few compliments – much to my surprise) and date night.
I think this may be the first time I’ve bared my forehead on my blog too – yes I do have eyebrows hidden under that fringe and thanks have to go to the wonderful make up artist; Kate Pymm – she got my brows lookin’ great (I’ve since visited the Charlotte Tilbury counter to pick up the wonder product she used) and gave me a serious smoky eye from the Rock Chick palette. She was really chatty, friendly (even complimenting my skin – which is a big deal coming from a MUA, right? It’s like being told you’ve got good hair from a hairdresser) and super talented. We spent some time talking about make up products while I quizzed her about the items in her kit.
What do you think of my reverse braids? It was fun to try out something new for Hair Fashion Night. I just need to practice them myself…or find a hairdresser that fancies styling my hair for me more often!
