  • Champagne For Breakfast?

I’m a firm believer that breakfast dates should be more of a ‘thing’. Yes it’s nice to go out for dinner, but breakfast is the most important meal of the day; so when it’s a special occasion but down that slice of bread and switch off the toaster. Have someone else prepare breakfast for you and add a glass of fizz if you want to!

I should clarify that this breakfast was on Friday and with it being (near enough) the weekend, a glass of Champagne Palmer & Co with a full English, whilst an absolute luxury, didn’t feel completely weird. If it’s your birthday or an anniversary or maybe you just fancy a treat, then I absolutely recommend you visit Jesmond Dene House, a boutique hotel in Newcastle. I’ve visited before for lunch and popped up to St Mary’s Inn for afternoon tea and both visits were great. I’m pleased to say, breakfast was just as delicious!

Welcomed and shown to our table, we were immediately offered fresh orange juice and tea/coffee before we investigated the continental selection. A range of fresh fruit, muesli, cereal, honey, bread and to my delight – cheese, were all laid out in a buffet style. The pastries on offer looked amazing, but knowing I was having a full English, I resisted the temptation of the Pain au Chocolat!

Breakfast arrived and whilst there were no beans – is it just me, or beans a standard requirement on a cooked breakfast? – everything was great. I even tried eggs for the first time since my toddler days (yes really) and realised that I actually don’t mind a poached egg or two… Next thing you know, I’ll be having scrambled eggs on toast and adding in some avocado. I’m kidding, let’s not get too far ahead here!

Sarah’s scrambled eggs and salmon on toast seemed to disappear in minutes, so I’ll take that to be a good sign. It certainly looked great when it was served and a good size too. I’m someone who prefers to have a bigger breakfast and both of us were really full after we’d finished, and poured out the last of the tea.

Jesmond Dene House definitely look after you and put on a good breakfast – champagne being optional. But it’s just what you need for a day of shopping ahead! Their staff are friendly and attentive and will allow plenty of time for you to relax and enjoy your food. If it hadn’t been a rainy, cold day, we would’ve gone for a walk around the grounds afterwards, but hey, maybe another time…

Thanks Jesmond Dene House for the complimentary breakfast and for reintroducing me to eggs!

Oh my gosh, totally agree with you about the beans! I thought I was being silly recently when I had an English breakfast before and there was no beans! Like it ties everything together and gives you something to dip everything else in. I'm very passionate about beans on a breakfast! Apart from that it looks great and champagne would be weird for me on a morning too but I guess it's a nice touch! 🙂
