Last week I tried something new. Climbing. Now I’ve never really been a fan of heights, nor do I have a good amount of upper body strength, but when you’re given the opportunity to try something new (and your sister seems really keen to give it a go) it would be silly to turn it down.
Eldon Leisure is hidden away above Eldon Square, accessible via a lift or some stairs just round the corner from Thorntons and Pandora. If you’ve never been before, the signs will direct you the right way, but it’s so easy to walk past without realising.
Once you’re within Eldon Leisure you can climb at Vertigo Adventure Climbing, visit the gym, maybe try out a spinning class, or even bowl. For young children, there’s a soft play area and a café should you need a coffee or a snack.
Vertigo has 19 different themed walls including the solar system, ice, castle, moon, burning house (where you have to put the fire out hovering your hand over sensors) tyres, assault course, board game, a transparent one where you can climb up either side and a race wall.
I really enjoyed climbing, it’s good fun and a good workout too! There’s no rush to climb to the top and you work at your own pace. My sister was flying up the walls where I was more cautious thinking about where I could put my hands/feet next. For more information on Vertigo, visit Eldon Leisure’s website.
Is climbing something you’ve tried before? If you’re looking for one of the latest fitness trends to try and heights aren’t your thing (which I can completely appreciate) why not try barre, see what I thought of my first class, or maybe one of these suggestions from Simply Health may be more up your street. Underwater cycling sounds fun, but then again I do love spinning classes…
Have you tried something new lately?
I was kindly invited along to try out Vertigo. All words and photos (bar the second shot) are my own. If I can climb, then anyone can!
